I’m a mum, a grandmother, an early childhood
professional and a special education teacher. I am very passionate about teaching children to
read. I have worked in pre schools and in special education facilities teaching young
children and children with special needs to successfully develop literacy skills.
Over the years I tried many different
strategies to teach reading skills to children and gradually developed a successful learning to
read program that worked.
learn best with guidance from a caring adult and when learning is fun. My teaching program
introduces learning to read strategies using specially designed games and play
Follow my program and your child will develop
reading skills and learning will be enjoyable for both you and your child.
After reading this book you will know how

success Children who cannot
read effectively experience significant difficulties understanding various types of
educational content and are at risk of failure in school.
Teach reading at
home You are in the best position to guide your child’s learning. When you
provide an environment that is fun, stimulating, loving and safe it gives children the
best possible chance to learn easily.
Provide the best opportunity for reading
success A caring and loving environment is the platform for children to
develop confidence and a positive self-image. Children that feel good about themselves
are able to succeed.
Introduce pre-reading skills to your child
from an early age A three year
old' s brain is twice as active as adults. Children are like ‘super sponges’, their
brains are hard wired to learn.
Introduce learning to read
activities in games Children
learn while playing. Playing with your child is beneficial for both you and your
child. The American Academy of Pediatrics' policy statement (2011) states
importance of parents sitting down to play with their children
cannot be overstated.’
Introduce learning to read in
a fun and
interactive way Young
children learn best with directly interacting with a caring adult rather than a
computer. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ policy statement (2011) states
that; ‘young children learn best from and need
interaction with humans not screens.’
Get your child off on the right
foot for success Children who get off
to a poor start in reading rarely catch up; the struggling first-grade reader almost
invariably continues to be a poor reader.
Introduce daily reading with your
child Reading aloud to your child is
the single most critical factor to their reading success later in life. Children
growing up in homes where they are read to regularly, get 3 more years schooling than
children from homes where children are not read to.

families’ will build your child’s reading skills by helping them to decode commonly
used sounds when reading.

phonograms and reinforces the ‘word families’ introduced in the rhymes. The wheel has
concentric circles that when rotated form words. It includes 38 ‘word families’ endings and

sentences to construct your child’s first reading books. Children become successful readers
and gain meaning from books that have familiar words and topics of interest.
